Carl Sandburg College and Richard J. Daley College played to a 3-3 tie Wednesday afternoon at Kleine Field in Galesburg. Sandburg led 2-0 at the half on a set piece finish by Mario Romero in the 38th minute from about 25 yards and a goal in the 39th minute by Gustavo Sarmiento off a quick restart by Romero. The 2nd half started where the first left off for the Chargers as they pushed forward and earned a corner kick. In the 52nd minute using the windy conditions and some unbelievable side spin Manfred Gonzalez put the corner kick directly into the goal to give the Chargers a 3-0 lead. Daley however fought back and tied the match at 3-3 with the last goal coming in the 85th minute. Sandburg had a couple of nice scoring chances in the first overtime and three in the second overtime but couldn’t get the ball in the net. The Chargers travel to Waubonsee College in Sugar Grove, Saturday, October 13 for a 3 p.m. start. |
