(Yates City, IL)  –  Two men were arrested near Yates City late last week after deputies from the Knox County Sheriff's Department were dispatched to a party where a fight was allegedly taking place.  Deputies say they responded to the call at 717 Knox road 2300 East Friday night.  The incident started when 20-year old Nicholas Vawter was told that 18-year old Brian Elliott of Farmington was headed to his party to cause problems.  Vawter then allegedly left but then returned a little while later with a shotgun and three shells.  Elliott then arrived and the two started yelling. Vawter got back in his vehicle, but Elliott then fire two rounds into the air.  Elliott then returned and Vawter then fired a shot at the Elliott vehicle, which shattered the rear tail light.  The two then started fighting after Elliott got out of his car.  Elliott then was able to get Vawter in a choke hold, but Vawter was able to get a pocket knife from his pocket and then stabbed Elliott in the leg.  Elliott then left the scene.  Once police got to the scene, they took the knife, shotgun and shells into evidence.  Vawter was charged with aggravated battery, aggravated discharge of a firearm and illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor.  Elliott was later located in Farmington and has been charged with aggravated battery.
