(Galesburg, IL)  –  The woman who is accused of killing a Knox College student in a hit and run accident nearly two weeks ago was back in Knox County Circuit Court earlier this week.  33-year old Lakeesha Deona Smith requested that she be provided a public defender.  She had previously indicated to the court that she was intending to hire a private attorney.  Smith has been charged with leaving the scene of a fatality, leving the scene of an accident, reckless homicide as well as two counts of aggravated DUI.  She allegedly hit 19-year old Tundan Lawani on October 28th.  Lawani was taken to Cottage Hospital in Galesburg where she later died.  Smith was assigned public defender Jim Harrell.  She is due back in Knox County Circuit Court today.
