The Galesburg woman accused of driving a vehicle that struck a Knox College student, killing her and then leaving the scene was back in Knox County Circuit Court on Friday. 33-year old Lakeesha D. Smith appeared with public defender Jim Harrell, who will be representing her. A motion was filed by the Knox County State's Attorney that requests a DNA sample from Smith. Authorities say that Smith was driving the vehicle that struck 19-year old Tundan Lawani last month and then left the scene of the accident. Lawani was taken to Cottage Hospital in Galesburg where she later died from injuries suffered in the accident. Smith is being held on a $100,000 bond in the Knox County Jail in Galesburg.
