Winkelmann, Bales Named Academic All-Summit League
The Leatherneck defenders were honored for their academic and athletic accomplishments.
ELMHURST, Ill. - The Western Illinois soccer program was recognized with two Academic All-Summit League recipients on Wednesday: senior Aaron Winkelmann and junior Charlie Bales.
The Leathernecks were second in the conference with two honorees, behind just Oakland.
Winkelmann is a Communications and English major with a Journalism minor, and has a cumulative GPA of 3.89.
On the field, he has played in 16 games and made 11 starts, taking six shots while serving as the team's shutdown defender.
Bales earns the honor after also being named First Team All-Summit League and Summit League All-Tournament Team.
The defender has a 3.59 GPA as a Communication major with a Marketing minor, and is second on the team with four assists, also adding a goal.
The pair has also helped lead a strong defense in the Leathernecks' Summit League title run.
Winkelmann, Bales, and the rest of the Leathernecks will be back in action tomorrow in the NCAA Tournament First Round at Northwestern, playing at Lakeside Field at 7 p.m.
