Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler will sit out Monday's game against the San Francisco 49ers while he is still recovering from a concussion and Jason Campbell will get the start. Cutler was hurt during last week's loss to the Houston Texans when he absorbed a hard hit to the head late in the first half by linebacker Tim Dobbins. After Cutler stayed in the game and played the rest of the second quarter, Campbell took over under center for the second half and completed 11-of-19 passes for 94 yards in the 13-6 loss. Campbell, a former first-round pick of the Washington Redskins, started six games for Oakland last year before suffering a broken collarbone and losing his job when the Raiders acquired Carson Palmer in a trade with Cincinnati. He has a 31-39 record as a starter.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick will not play Sunday against Washington as he continues to recover from a concussion, meaning rookie Nick Foles will make his first NFL start. Eagles head coach Andy Reid made it official on Friday, declaring Vick out. The veteran signal-caller is still dealing with the effects of what Reid earlier this week called a "pretty significant" concussion, which forced him out of last Sunday's 38-23 home loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Trainer Rick Burkholder said Vick is still bothered by headaches, lethargy and lack of sleep, in addition to earlier reports of sensitivity to light. Vick took an "impact test" on Friday and performed below his baseline, and will have another one on Monday. Foles took over for Vick last week and threw for 219 yards while completing 22-of-32 passes with a touchdown. He also threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown and lost a fumble that was recovered by Dallas in the end zone for another score, as the Eagles lost their fifth straight game to fall to 3-6.

The New Orleans Hornets have given general manager Dell Demps a multi-year contract extension. Demps is beginning his third year as the club's general manager and has the team off to a 3-3 start heading into Friday's game against Oklahoma City. The Hornets were 46-36 in Demps' first season as GM, then underwent a complete transformation last year after losing forward David West to free agency and trading guard Chris Paul to the Clippers. New Orleans finished 21-45 during the lockout-shortened campaign, but had a pair of top-10 picks in the 2012 draft and selected Anthony Davis first overall before choosing Austin Rivers with the 10th pick.

The Chicago Cubs made it official Friday and agreed to terms with catcher Dioner Navarro on a one-year contract worth a reported $1.75 million. Navarro, a 2008 American League All-Star with Tampa Bay, appeared in just 24 games for the Cincinnati Reds last season, spending much of the campaign with Triple-A Louisville. He hit .290 with a pair of homers and 12 runs batted in at the big league level after batting .319 in the minors. The 28-year-old switch-hitter has also played for the Yankees and Dodgers, and is a career .245 hitter in 626 big league games.

The Detroit Tigers and free agent outfielder Torii Hunter agreed on Friday to a two-year contract through the 2014 season. Financial terms of the deal were not released, but it is reported to be worth $26 million. The 16-year veteran batted a career-high .313 with 24 doubles, 16 home runs and 92 RBI through 140 games for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim last season. A nine-time Gold Glove winner and four-time All Star, Hunter is a career .277 hitter with 406 doubles, 297 homers and 1,143 RBI over 1,947 games with the Minnesota Twins (1997-2007) and Angels (2008-12).

Rick Majerus will not return as Saint Louis head men's basketball coach due to lingering health issues. Majerus originally announced he was taking a leave of absence in late August as he was set to undergo treatment and evaluation for a persistent and serious heart ailment out in California. That course of action has apparently been extended for an indefinite period of time, and interim head coach Jim Crews will continue to lead the team going forward. Under Crews, the Billikens have split their first two games, a win over USC Upstate and a loss to Santa Clara. Texas A&M is next on the slate, scheduled for Monday. In just five years as SLU's head coach, the 64-year-old Majerus put the men's basketball program back on the national map, leading the Jesuit program to a 95-69 record. Last season, he guided the Billikens to the third round of the NCAA Tournament, SLU's first NCAA appearance since 2000. In addition, the Billikens topped Memphis in the second round for their first NCAA Tournament win since 1998. Saint Louis entered the national polls for the first time since 1994-95.

David Ferrer has given Spain a 1-0 lead over the Czech Republic in the Davis Cup final after claiming a straight-set win against Radek Stepanek. Ferrer posted a 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 victory in the first singles match to improve to 22-4 lifetime in Davis Cup matches. Nicolas Almagro is currently on the court for Spain in Friday's second singles match, while Tomas Berdych will try to even the best-of-five tie for the host Czechs. Spain, which is playing without injured superstar Rafael Nadal, has won three of the last four Davis Cup titles, including a 5-0 sweep of the Czechs in the 2009 finale.
