Monmouth's Colleen Forrest set the school record for 3-pointers and the Scots needed every one in a 90-89 overtime win over UW-Whitewater in the championship game of the Monmouth Invitational.
The Fighting Scots got up by 12 with just under 13 minutes to play in the second half on a trey by Paige Nord before the Warhawks came storming back. Back-to-back Monmouth turnovers were converted into a Whitewater three to pair with a trio of free throws cutting Monmouth's lead to six at 49-43. Whitewater chipped away and took the lead on a bucket inside with 3:33 remaining.
After the Warhawks hit a pair of charity tosses with 45 seconds left to take a 72-74 lead, Nord - who finished with a team high 20 points - drained a jumper to knot the game at 74-74. The game went into overtime when Whitewater couldn't connect on a pair of three point tries in the final seconds.
The Scots took hit three of four free throws in the first minute of overtime to take the lead before the Warhawks drilled a three-ball to tie the game for the final time. Marla Willard hit back-to-back shots to give the Scots an 81-77 lead with three minutes left in OT, but still needed a pair of free throws from Kaley Corban to hold off the Warhawks for the win.
