(Galesburg, IL)  --  The city council will be discussing a 5-percent tax on gas bills for residents in Galesburg during tonights meeting.  The council will likely approve the increase.  The City administration has recommended that the tax increase be approved by council.  The city council recently did not approve electric bill tax increases and they decided to keep the property tax at the current level.  City officials say that the gas bill tax increase will close the $600,000 gap in the next city budget.  If approved, the new taxes would go into effect on February 1st of next year.
