The West Central Heat 8th grade girls basketball team won the IESA
Sectional Final Wednesday night in Stronghurst. The girls defeated a very
good team from Washington Central Jr. High 35-33. The 8th grade Heat's record is now
19-2.

West Central fell behind early by as many as nine points and trailed at the
half. The Heat scored three quick baskets after intermission to take the
lead. West Central went ahead by as many as 10 points before Washington
battled back to tie the game with 33 seconds left. The Heat got a quick
jumper from Joni Lafary and held on for a two-point win.

The girls qualified for State competition at Warrensburg-Lathem High
School on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. They will play Wenona Middle School of
Fieldcrest. If they win they will play at 5 p.m. Saturday in the first state semifinal.
