Wednesday's Results -------------------
College Football Bowl Games --------------------------- The Sugar Bowl was decided early and it certainly wasn't the outcome most prognosticators expected. Louisville, after needing a tiebreaker to gain the automatic BCS bowl bid from the underwhelming Big East Conference, surprisingly handled SEC powerhouse Florida, 33-23, in a showdown at the Superdome more lopsided than the final score indicated. Teddy Bridgewater threw for 266 yards with a pair of touchdown passes and an interception for the No. 22 Cardinals (11-2), whose defense held the fourth-ranked Gators to 285 yards and forced three turnovers. Florida (11-2) went 4-1 against ranked opponents in the regular season and was a double-digit favorite coming in, but played from behind after the first play from scrimmage after Terell Floyd returned an interception for a touchdown.
Top-25 College Basketball ------------------------- Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim picked up his 903rd career victory on Wednesday to move past Bob Knight for sole possession of second place on the all-time Division I wins list. Brandon Triche led the way on the historic night at the Carrier Dome, making five 3-pointers en route to 25 points to help the seventh-ranked Orange beat the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, 78-53, in the Big East opener for both programs. Michael Carter-Williams added a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists for Syracuse (13-1, 1-0 Big East), which has won three in a row since a loss to Temple on Dec. 22. C.J. Fair tallied 15 points.

A pair of teams who had hoped to be playing for the BCS National Championship will instead square off in the 2013 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl on Thursday, as the Oregon Ducks do battle with the Kansas State Wildcats. Both teams went 11-1 during the regular season, but K-State won its conference (Big 12), while Oregon failed to reach its league's title tilt (Pac-12). Oregon is just the fourth team in history to appear in four or more consecutive BCS bowl games -- USC (2003-09), Ohio State (2006-11) and Miami- Florida (2001-04) being the others. The Ducks, under the tutelage of Chip Kelly, are 2-2 in BCS bowl games, which includes a 38-16 win over Colorado in their only previous trip to the Fiesta Bowl. Kansas State's first BCS bowl game was also in the Fiesta Bowl back in 2003 after the team won its last, and only other, Big 12 title.

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis announced Wednesday that he will retire after the team concludes its playoff run. Lewis suffered a torn right triceps in October and missed the team's last 10 games of the regular season. He was activated off the team's injured reserve with a designation to return last month, but remained sidelined and is expected to play Sunday when Baltimore hosts Indianapolis in the wild card round of the AFC playoffs. The 17-year veteran and former Super Bowl MVP is bound for the Hall of Fame after a stellar career as the heart and soul of Baltimore's defense.
