It may have been the second warmest year on the books last year, it was only the third warmest in Galesburg.  All three of the top three warmest years in the history in Galesburg have taken place  in the 21st centruy.  2006  was the warmest at 54.2 degrees, the second warmest was 2005 with an average temperature for the year at 53.8-degrees.  In 2012, the average temperature was 53.6-degrees.  Jim Angel, State Climatologist Jim Angel says that last year was the 10th Driest year in Illinois on record.  As of December 27th,  Knox, Fulton, Peoria, Stark and Marshall Counties were listed in the moderate drought range by the U.S. Drought Monitor of the 35 counties that are covered by the National Weather Service in Lincoln.
