(Chicago, IL) -- One of Illinois’ political icons is struggling with Lou Gehrig’s disease. Dawn Clarke Nestch revealed the news yesterday, calling it one of her toughest challenges. The disease attacks the nerves in the body and could soon make it difficult for the former state senator and comptroller to walk or even speak. Netsch has been a solid voice in Illinois politics for about four decades. She was the first woman to run for governor on a major party ticket in Illinois back in 1994, the first woman to win a statewide race when she was elected comptroller back in 1990, and has been a go-to person when it comes to deciphering the state’s constitution – she helped rewrite the document back in 1970.
>>Three Police Officers Arrested On Drug Charges
(Schaumburg, IL) -- Three Schaumburg cops are on the other side of the law for allegedly selling drugs. John Cichy, Matthew Hudak and Terrance O'Brien all work in the narcotics division in the Schaumburg Police Department. They were arrested yesterday after federal drug officers executed 20 search warrants. They’re expected to appear in court today. Each has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

(Watseka, IL) -- One newly elected state rep has found a creative and controversial way to replenish his campaign chest. Josh Harms, from Watseka, is raffling off several guns. The grand prize is a Ruger Mini-14 stainless steel rifle. He’s also raffling off a Ruger LCR hammerless 357 revolver and a Mossberg 535 pump shotgun. Tickets are five bucks apiece and must be purchased by March 2nd. Participants must be 21 and eligible to own a gun in Illinois.

(Springfield, IL) -- A couple of notes from the State Department of Natural Resources. Illinois fishing, hunting, and sportsman’s combination licenses for 2013 will be available starting next Monday, January 21st, from all DNR Direct license and permit vendors, plus online at the DNR website. Also, the final segment of the 2012-2013 Late-Winter Firearm Antlerless-only Deer Season comes to an end this weekend around the state – that’s tomorrow, Saturday, and Sunday in Illinois. Some county permits are still available over the counter.
