Sandburg President on Ballot for AACC Board of Directors

GALESBURG—Carl Sandburg College President Dr. Lori Sundberg has been nominated for consideration for the American Association of Community Colleges Board of Directors.

Sundberg is one of 11 community college presidents selected to appear on the ballot in the institutional representatives category. Six positions are open to serve a staggered three-year term on the Board. The Board of Directors is elected by AACC member CEOs, and the election will take place during February.

“It’s an incredible honor even to be nominated to be a part of the AACC Board,” Sundberg said. “I’m thrilled about the prospect of being a part of our national organization. It would allow me and the College to have a voice on the many policy issues that will be facing community colleges in the coming months. This is just a fantastic opportunity.”

The AACC Board of Directors is made up of 18 representatives in the institutional member category, six in the council representative category, three in the institution at-large category and three in the public at-large category. The Board appoints one person each to the institutional at-large and public at-large categories. The entire Board consists of 32 members, including the chair-elect and the immediate past chair.

Sundberg in August accepted an invitation to serve as a member of the AACC’s 21st Century Initiative Implementation Team. The Implementation Team will expand on the work of the 21st Century Commission on the Future of Community Colleges by focusing on aspects of the commission’s report, “Reclaiming the American Dream,” which examined the challenges and opportunities facing higher education.
