Galesburg News 1-23-13

(Galesburg, IL)  --  The investigation into the Sunday morning stabbing death of a Galesburg man is continuing by police in Galesburg.  Police say they the victim, 23-year old Robert L. Kilgore was found at 18 Chestnut Street in Galesburg after he allegedly was involved in a fight with another man.  Kilgore was taken to Cottage Hospital in Galesburg to be treated before he was taken to OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria where he was pronounced dead by the Peoria County Coroner's office.  Police say the incident happened sometime between 12:30 and 1 a.m. Sunday morning.  Authorities located a suspect, Kia A. Lefler of Oneida in the 200 block of Lake Street.  Lefler has been charged with murder as well as aggravated battery.  He is being held in the Knox County Jail.


(Knoxville, IL)  --  The Knoxville City Council was advised at its regular city council meeting on Monday about the requirements that are going to be in place in regard to the Affordable Care Act.  Beginning in January of 2014, employers will be required to provide health insurance to full-time employees and that includes the City of Knoxville.  The full-time employee's includes those who work 30 hours or more a week.  As a result, some employers are cutting back the hours of their part time employee's so they are under 30 hours a week.  The Knoxville City Council will next meet on February 4th.


(Galesburg, IL)  --  The Administrator and CEO of OSF-St. Mary Medical Center and CEO of the Western Region has announced his plans to retire.  Those plans call for Richard Kowalski's retirement to be around the end of June of this year.  .  He was appointed as administrator and CEO of the medical center in 1979.  In 2009, his responsibilities were expanded to include the position of CEO of the Western Region.


(Galesburg, IL)  --  Monday night, officials with both the library and city got their first glimpse of possible designs for the new Galesburg Public Library.  It was during a design competition at the library.  The companies competing in the design competition were Dubuque based FEH Associates, OPN Architects from Cedar Rapids and from Engberg Anderson of Milwaukee.  The winner of the design competition is expected to be announced next month.  A construction manager will then be named shortly after the architecture firm who will design the new Galesburg Public Library is announced.


(Galesburg, IL)  --  A CNN journalist was at Knox College recently, offering job seeking advice to students.  Christine Romans told those attending that there are four job-seekers for every available job.  She said that you have to start thinking about what will make you stand out.  Romans made the comments at the annual John D. Carlin Career Development Forum on January 14th.  Her lecture was called "Being Smart to Find the Job You Want".  About 300 students were in the audience during her lecture.


(Galesburg, IL)  --  The public as well as members of the news media have a couple of new ways to get the latest information in regard to activities at Illinois historic sites. The couple of ways are by Twitter and by Facebook.  The Illinois Historic Preservation Agency has launched social media accounts and will be able to share pictures, announcements, news releases and other activities that are at the over 60 historic sites and monuments that are operated by the State of Illinois.
