In a mirror image of their first meeting with the Rock Island Lady Rocks, turnovers were the name of the game in a Galesburg Silver Streak Girls basketball 66-60 loss to the Lady Rocks. The Streaks committed 17 turnovers in a sloppy first half and ended with a total of 31 for the game. That slow start put the Streaks behind 11-6 at the end of the first quarter. From there, the Streaks kept that same margin through the second quarter and were also down by 5 at the half, 34-29. After the break, Galesburg's turnover woes only worsened in the 3rd quarter as they trailed by 10 heading into the final quarter. The Streaks cut the lead to 4 at several points in the 4th, but could never get any closer. Sophomore, Sabrina Clay, had her best game as a Varsity Streak and scored a team-high 13 points. Haley Kelso and Jessica Lieber each added 12 points. Star Lady Rock guard Shavonne Brewer scored a game-high 21.
With the win, the Lady Rocks wrapped up the Western Big Six title and stayed unbeaten in league play at (8-0). Rock Island is the 6th ranked team in Class 3A and moved to (22-2) overall. The Streaks dropped to third place in the league at (5-3) and (17-10) overall on the season.
In other WB6 play, United Township moved into second place at (6-2) with a 39-20 win over Rock Island Alleman and Quincy beat Moline 46-34.
