Galesburg News 2-8-13

(Galesburg, IL)  --  A new Dean of College has been named by Knox College.  Dr. Laura Behling replaces Lawrence Breitborde.  The announcement was made in a campus-wide e-mail on Wednesay from President Teresa Amott.  Currently, Dr. Behling is the Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs at Butler University in Indianpolis.  Breitborde will leave his currently position on June 30th when he will begin a year long subbatical.  He will then return to Knox College and begin to teach anthropology.


(Undated)  --  The new Abingdon-Avon School district 276 is continuing their search for a superintendent, but the search has been narrowed down to three candidates.  Officials with the new district are not saying who the three candidates are at this time.  They do say they hope to talk to each of the candidates sometime next week and make a decision by the end of this month.  Meanwhile, the district is continuing to proceed with coming up with school colors and a nickname for the new school district.  So far school officials haven't deteremined what they will be.  The School Board for District 276 will be meeting again on February 21st in the Abingdon district offices and will start at 7 p.m.


(Alpha, IL)  --  The Alpha Village Board met earlier this week, with its members approving an agreement with Nordic Energy Service of Oakbrook.  they will be providing commercial electrical service.  Currently an agreement with the company expires in October.  The new agreement will go into effect after the current one runs out.  The service agreement is for 4.364 cents per kilowatt hour and it is based on a plan of 36 months.


(Undated)  --  The first piece of legislation that was introduced by new 17th Illinois Congressional District's freshman Representative is in regard to government waste.  Congresswoman Cheri Bustos introduced her Government Waste Reduction Act on Wednesday.  Bustos says that the legislation will reduce redundancies in the federal budget and it will also save billions in years to come.  In addition she says that it will not reduce service levels to constituents.  Bustos says that there are clauses in the legislation that will protect medicare and Social Security.


(Galesburg, IL)  --  "A Night of One Act comedies and Song" is being presented by En Season and Coffee Bean Theatre.  It is being directed by Gary Mustain.  It will be taking place in the Sustainable Business Center located at 2900 West Main Street.  Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for dinner, both nights.  The performance will begin at 8 p.m.  tickets for the night are $35 and will include both dinner and the show.  For ticket information you can call 1-309-343-0736.  The menu for dinner includes your choice of Beef Burgand or Chicken Marsala, Roasted Red Potatoes, Scalloped Asparagus and Peach Crisp with Raspberries.  The dinner-theatre will take place this Friday and Saturday.
