Cardinals Avoid Arbitration With Freese
(St. Louis, MO) -- The Cardinals avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract with third baseman David Freese on Friday. Terms were not disclosed, but the "Post-Dispatch" reported the amount was expected to exceed three-million-dollars. The 2011 World Series MVP hit .293 last season while setting career highs with 20 home runs and 79 RBI, earning his first All-Star selection.
Cards Report For Spring Training
(Jupiter, FL) -- Pitchers and catchers have reported to Cardinals camp in Jupiter, Florida. The first workout for those players is set for tomorrow. The rest of the squad is scheduled to report to spring training on Thursday and the first full-team workout will take place on Friday.
Mizzou Handles Ole Miss
(Columbia, MO) -- Alex Oriakhi had 22 points and 18 rebounds to lead Missouri in a 98-79 drubbing of Ole Miss on Saturday. Phil Pressey also scored 22 points for the Tigers, who moved to 17-and-6 with a 6-and-4 mark in the SEC. Mizzou hits the road to play Mississippi State on Wednesday.
Illinois Upsets Minnesota
(Minneapolis, MN) -- Tyler Griffey had 16 points off the bench to lead Illinois in a 57-53 upset win over Minnesota. D.J. Richardson added 13 points for the Fighting Illini, who are now 17-and-8 with a 4-and-7 Big Ten record. Illinois returns home to play Purdue on Wednesday.
SLU Gets Past Richmond
(Richmond, VA) -- Dwayne Evans had 11 points and 11 rebounds as Saint Louis won a defensive battle over Richmond on Saturday, 56-46. Kwamain Mitchell and Cody Ellis each added nine points for SLU, which moved to 18-and-5 with a 7-and-2 record in Atlantic 10 play. The Billikens return home and face Charlotte on Saturday.
