GILSON -- A Williamsfield man is dead and his wife injured following an accident near Gilson Saturday night.  Authorities in Knox County say the accident occured in 900 block of Illinois Route 97 at about 7:30 p.m.  71-year old Sammy G. Marksity died as a result of injuries suffered in the accident according to the Knox County Sheriff's Department. His wife, Karen Marksity, was taken by LifeFlight Helicopter to OSF-St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.  The Knox County Sheriff's Office is investigating the accident.


GALESBURG -- Authorities in Galesburg are looking for three Quad-Cities women who they believe cashed more than $2,000 of forged payroll checks at the North Boulevard Hy-Vee between January 24 and February.  Police say that the three presented IDs matching the names on checks that appeared to be from Merry Maid and Fairfield Inn.  Police said their investigation into the matter concluded the three women were not employees of the two businesses and the checks were all fake. One of the women is from Davenport, while the other two are from Rock Island.


GALESBURG -- After authorities in Galesburg released the first suspect in a sexual assault that took place in January in a Knox College residence hall, a second suspect has been banned from campus. The second suspect was also ordered to submit a DNA sample for analysis.  Authorities have not filed any charges at this point as they are awaiting the results of the DNA testing.  Authorities said it could take at least six weeks to process the DNA. 


PEORIA  --  A Victoria man on trial in U.S. Federal Court for weapons charges was found guilty of those charges last week.  Charles W. Pollock, Jr., 49, was convicted last Thursday on charges of possession of firearms by a felon, possession of ammunition by a felon and attempting to tamper with a witness by corrupt persuasion. The jury deliberated for about three hours.  The charges stemmed from a July 2011 incident when authorities in Galesburg were investigating a sexual assault and kidnapping of a Knox County woman.  Those charges were dropped but authorities found the weapons during a search orf Pollock's home during the investigation.  Pollock is schedule to be sentenced on June 6 in Peoria.


LONDON MILLS -- Additional arrests in connection with a string of break-ins in London Mills were made Friday.  Authortities said two suspects were taken into custody.  Arested were 18-year old Colten Angelo-Burnett of London Mills, and a juvenile residing in London Mills.  The arrests were made after a tip.  Police arrested another juvenile earlier last week.  Angelo-Burnett was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle.  He is being held in the Knox County Jail on a $50,000 bond. Additional charges are possible.


GALESBURG -- A Wataga man is facing DUI and failure to reduce speed charges following a single-vehicle accident. Andrew S. Clark, 21, allegedly flipped his vehicle after striking a guard rail on U.S. 34. Police said Clark and a passenger in the vehicle told police they had started drinking at Clark's residence and took off for Galesburg when they ran out of alcohol. The passenger told police that Clark was entering onto U.S. 34 from the North Henderson Street entrance ramp when Clark lost control of the vehicle.  The passenger was treated for minor injuries while Clark was taken to OSF St. Francis Medical Center for treatment of injuries suffered in the accident.


GALESBURG -- A joint city/state news released is expected sometime this week in regard to the Illinois Department of Employment Security office in Galesburg.  Just over a week ago, Galesburg Mayor Sal Garza sent a proposal to the state to try to keep the location open after it was slated for closeure with six other offices around the state.  Garza spoke with Jay Howell, the Director of the Illinois Department of Employment Security, Friday. The state lost $7-million in federal funding and that has prompted the state to close the offices.


GALESBURG -- Galesburg School District 205 will have a light agenda for tonight's meeting.  An instruction presentation will be made by Principal of Bright Futures E. Jean Brown.  Also on the agenda is a board policy revision that is related to the reorganization of the central office administrators.  That reorganization would reduce the administrators from four to three.  Posting of the assistant superintendent for finance and operations postion for the 2013-2014 school year will also be discussed.
