A accident involving a semi and a van in Henderson County early this morning resulted in one fatality and
two people taken to the hospital. The Illinois State Police report the accident occured on US 34, about 1 mile west IL 164 around 5:45am Monday. The report states a semi driven by 35 year-old Satwinder Gakhar of Ontario was traveling westbound on US 34, and was negotiating a curve,when the semi crossed the centerline and struck a delivery truck van head-on. Driver of van, a 53-year-old man from Burlington, Iowa was killed as a result of the crash.His name was not released. A passenger in the van,55-year-old William Krapfl of Anamosa, Iowa was extricated from the vehicle by emergency personnel and transported via ambulance to Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa. He was hospitalized with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Gakhar, driver of the semi, was extricated by emergency personnel and transported via Med Force Air Ambulance to OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL. He was hospitalized with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Satwinder Pal GAKHAR-Age 35 was cited for Improper Lane Usage and Failure to Wear Seatbelt by a Driver.
