City, Police Sergeants' Association Reach Tentative Deal
(Chicago, IL) -- A tentative agreement has been reached between the City of Chicago and the Chicago Police Sergeants' Association. The four-year deal announced Tuesday night by Mayor Rahm Emanuel phases in a nine-percent pay increase, maintains eligibility for retiree health care at age 55, but also requires retirees pay two-percent of their retirement annuity toward their benefit. The agreement must still be ratified by union members.
Attorney Convicted Of Murdering Eddy Curry's Ex-Girlfriend
(Chicago, IL) -- A Chicago attorney is guilty of killing the former girlfriend and daughter of ex-Bulls player Eddy Curry. The jury deliberated a little more than four-hours before convicting Frederick Going of first-degree murder. Nova Henry and her ten-month-old daughter were found shot to death inside their South Loop home in January 2009.
Man Arrested For Attacking Illinois State University Student
(Chicago, IL) -- A man accused of attacking a female student on the campus of Illinois State University is facing charges. Police say the man was visiting a friend Tuesday afternoon when he assualted the woman with a weapon. Several buildings were briefly locked down until the man was arrested while trying to get on an Amtrack train about an hour later.
Police Looking For Serial Robber
(Chicago, IL) -- Chicago police are looking for the man responsible for robbing several businesses on the city's North and West sides. Police say all of the robberies have taken place between 11:30 p.m. and 2:15 a.m., and the man typically enters with a gun and demands money from the register. Police say the robberies are becoming more frequent and are moving south.
New Fitness Center Caters To Overweight People
(Chicago, IL) -- A new gym is open in Chicago and skinny people aren't allowed. The owners of Downsize Fitness say the gym is catered toward people who are at least 50-pounds overweight and not toward those that are thin and fit. Members say Downsize Fitness costs a little more than other gyms, but it's worth it because everyone there has a similar goal.
Pendletons Are Guests Of Obama's At D-C Address
(Washington, DC) -- The parents of slain Chicago teen Hadiya Pendleton were invited guests at President Obama's State of the Union address last night. Nathaniel and Cleopatra Pendleton sat next to First Lady Michelle Obama as the President delivered his first State of the Union address since being re-elected. Obama urged Congress to act in favor of his gun restrictions in light of the recent shooting tragedies. The 15-year-old's parents applauded when Obama told Congress they and all victims of deadly shootings quote, "deserve a vote."
Body Pulled From Chicago Lagoon
(Chicago, IL) -- Chicago police are investigating a body pulled from a lagoon in Marquette Park. Authorities say the body of a 56-year-old male was recovered yesterday afternoon near South Kedzie Avenue. The Officials say the victim lived nearby. Autopsy results are pending.
U-I-C Employee Busted For Bringing Unloaded Gun To Work
(Chicago, IL) -- An employee from the University of Illinois at Chicago is under arrest after authorities say he carried a gun to work. Police say they were called to the scene yesterday where a man with a gun was spotted by another U-I-C employee. The man was arrested although the weapon was not loaded. The man said he didn't want to leave the gun at home because his house is being renovated.
Ducks Edge Blackhawks In Shootout
(Chicago, IL) -- The Blackhawks gave up a pair of goals in the shootout as they fell, 3-2, to the Ducks at the United Center. Nick Leddy and Brandon Saad each lit the lamp for Chicago, which remains the NHL's only team without a loss in regulation. The 'Hawks fell to 10-0-and-3 and saw their four-game winning streak come to an end.. Corey Crawford turned away 29 shots in the setback. The 'Hawks welcome the San Jose Sharks to town on Friday.
