Off-Duty Officer Finds Body

(Collinsville, IL)  --  Metro East police are investigating after an off-duty cop discovered a body.  The officer was jogging last night in Collinsville and spotted a man lying in a ditch filled with water.  The body had apparently been there for several days.  A cause of death hasn't been determined.

Man Shot During Home Invasion Charged

(Highland, IL)  --  A man who was shot after allegedly breaking into an apartment over the weekend now faces charges.  Joshua Jewell is accused of forcing his way into a Highland apartment belonging to two sisters and attacking them both.  Debbie Keeney managed to grab a gun and shot Jewell in the stomach.  Police say he won't be arrested until he's released from the hospital.

Man Charged With Killing Ex-Girlfriend

(Jennings, MO)  --  A Jennings man faces murder charges in the stabbing death of his girlfriend.  Police say 32-year-old Calvin Campbell killed Sophie Moore at her home Tuesday night.  Moore's sons witnessed her murder, but managed to flee to a neighbor's to call for help.  Campbell surrendered to police early yesterday morning.

Feds OK Illinois Health Insurance Exchange Plan

(Washington, DC)  --  The Obama Administration has approved Illinois' plans for creating a health insurance exchange where thousands of state residents will be able to shop for coverage plans.  The approval from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services comes with six conditions.  The exchange is expected to be in operation October 1st.

St. Louis Student Named Top Volunteer

(St. Louis, MO)  --  A St. Louis student receives national attention for her volunteer work.  Sarah Sutherlin, who attends Villa Duchesne and Oak Hill School, was one of just two Missouri students to receive the Prudential Spirit of Community Award. Over the last eight years, Sutherlin has raised more than ten-thousand dollars for the American Cancer Society through a Relay For Life Team.

Flea Market Leads To Burglary Suspect


(Caseyville, IL)  --  A Metro East flea market leads police to a Caseyville burglary suspect.  The owner of Clymer Construction contacted police after learning several items missing from a company vehicle were spotted for sale at a Fairmont City flea market.  Twenty-eight-year old Derek Stinnett now faces felony theft charges.

Man Shot During Highland Home Invasion Claims He Was Lost

(Highland, IL)  --  The man shot last weekend during a Highland home invasion claims he was lost.  But police aren’t buying the thirty-three-year old Troy, Illinois man’s story.  Joshua Jewell remains hospitalized after being shot twice by one of the home’s occupants.  His arrest is pending.             

Perfect Day For Illinois Lawmakers To Show Some Love


(Springfield, IL)  --  Today is the perfect day for Illinois lawmakers to show some love.  A bill up for vote in the state senate would clear the final hurdle in legalizing gay marriage.  The historic move would make Illinois the 10th U.S. State to take the leap.  

Prisoner Linked To 1989 Centreville Teen’s Murder

(St. Clair County, IL)  --  A prisoner about to be released has been linked to a 1989 Centreville murder.  The “Belleville News Democrat” reports fifty-one-year-old Carlos P. Garrett was just finishing up a drug sentence when mandatory DNA testing provided the clue.  He's now accused in the murder of 16-year old Nicole Willis.  

Good News For St. Stan Parishioners

(St. Louis, MO)  --  Good news for St. Stan parishioners.  According to “The St. Louis Post Dispatch” St. Louis Archdiocese leaders have finally given closure to the nearly decade-old struggle over property with St. Stanislaus.  In exchange, the congregation will in no way associate itself with the Catholic Church.  The agreement did not reportedly involve any cash.

New Tenant Announcement At Ballpark Village

(St. Louis, MO)  --  An announcement set for this afternoon will reveal the newest tenant at Ballpark Village.  Crews broke ground last week on phase one of the multi-functional facility right across the street from Busch Stadium.  The COO of the Professional Bull Riders will also be in attendance.  Today’s announcement is set for 1 p.m.
