DePaul Falls To Syracuse
(Syracuse, NY) -- Cleveland Melvin posted 15 points and eight rebounds as the Blue Demons fell to Syracuse, 78-57. Brandon Young added 12 points and six assists for DePaul, which dropped to 11-and-19 and 2-and-15 in the Big East. The Blue Demons close out the regular season against Pittsburgh on Saturday.
Northwestern Hosts Penn State
(Evanston, IL) -- The Northwestern Wildcats welcome in the Penn State Nittany Lions to Welsh-Ryan Arena tonight. The Wildcats defeated the Nittany Lions in mid-January but have lost six straight overall to drop to 13-and-16 and 4-and-12 in the Big Ten. Penn State is 9-and-19 and 1-and-15 in conference play.
Blackhawks Beat Avalanche
(Chicago, IL) -- Daniel Carcillo [[ car-SILL-oh ]] scored his first goal of the season with 50 seconds left to lift the Blackhawks to a 3-2 win over the Avalanche. Jonathan Toews [[ Tayves ]] scored shorthanded early in the third period to tie the game for Chicago, which extended its win streak to 11 games and improved to 21-0-and-3. Andrew Shaw scored the first goal of the game in the win. Ray Emery allowed both goals on 22 shots in net. The 'Hawks and Avs meet in Denver tomorrow.
Bollig Sent To Rockford
(Undated) -- The Chicago Blackhawks have sent left wing Brandon Bollig to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League. Bollig played in 11 games this season without accumulating a point. He amassed 40 penalty minutes. No corresponding move has been made.
Cubs Fall To Rangers
(Surprise, AZ) -- Scott Hairston blasted a solo home run as the Cubs fell to the Rangers, 3-2. Brian Bogusevic also drove in a run for Chicago. Hisanori Takahashi took the loss after giving up three runs in as many innings. He struck out four and walked two in the start. The Cubs host the White Sox in Mesa today. The Sox were off on Wednesday.
"USA Today" Releases AD Salaries
(Undated) -- "USA Today" has released the salaries of almost all 124 Football Bowl Subdivision athletic directors for the 2013 season. Around 20 schools, including Northwestern, did not return results because they are private or exempt from releasing salary data. David Williams of Vanderbilt is paid by the school over 3.2-million-dollars to top the list. Louisville's Tom Jurich makes just over 1.4-million to come in a distant second. Notre Dame's Jack Swarbrick earns over 1.026-million, while Mike Thomas of Illinois makes nearly 600-thousand.
