Freese Hits DL For Cards

(Jupiter, FL)  --  The Cardinals will start the season without third baseman David Freese.  The team announced yesterday Freese will start the season on the disabled list due to his lingering back injury.  The move comes a day after Freese seemed hopeful of being ready for Opening Day.  st. Louis is targeting April 8th for Freese's return, which happens to be the Redbirds' home opener against the Reds.

Beltran, Wainwright Strong In Cards' Win Over Mets


(Port St. Lucie, FL)  --  Adam Wainwright and Carlos Beltran were both Strong for the Cardinals in Tuesday's 11-4 win over the Mets.  Wainwright allowed two runs in six innings and picked up the win in his final tuneup before Opening Day.  Beltran saw his firSt Grapefruit League action in nearly a month after nursing an injured toe and reached base three times.  St. Louis will hoSt the Nationals in Jupiter today.

Reds Pound Cubs

(Mesa, AZ)  --  Jeff Samardzija allowed just one run in five innings but took the loss as the Cubs were crushed by the Reds, 11-1.  Cincinnati put up nine runs in the ninth inning.  steve Clevenger went 2-for-2 and drove in the only run for Chicago with a ground-rule double in the seventh.  The Cubs head to Surprise today to face the Royals.

Blues Blanked By Oilers

(St. Louis, MO)  --  Nikolai Khabibulin [[ NIH-koh-ligh  khah-bee-BOO-lihn ]] made 43 saves as the Oilers blanked the Blues laSt night, 3-0.  Jake Allen gave up three goals on seven shots before being pulled early in the second period.  Jaroslav Halak [[ YAHR-roh-slav  HAH-lak ]] Stopped all 12 shots he faced the reSt of the way.  The Blues have loSt three-of-four.  The Note hoSts the LA Kings tomorrow night.

(Undated)  --  Rams owner Stan Kroenke [[ KRONK-ee ]] has been ranked by Forbes as the second-richeSt owner in the NFL.  He is reportedly worth five-billion-dollars, a diStant second to Seattle Seahawks owner Paul Allen who has a net worth of 15-billion.  Stephen Ross of the Miami Dolphins and Malcolm Glazer of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers share third place at 4.4-billion.
