Galesburg, IL – April 1, 2013- The Sustainable Business Center is holding
the West Central Illinois Sustainability Expo on Friday, April 19th. The
expo will feature many of the sustainable programs and products that can
build a thriving green economy for West Central Illinois and will also be
an opportunity for the community to interact with these sustainability
leaders. From 11 am – 4 pm there will be demonstrations and informational
booths featuring organizations such as Growing Together, Inc., Carl
Sandburg College, KnoxCorps, and the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs.
Lunch discussions will occur within En Season Kitchen during their lunch
hours, 11 am – 2 pm. You can enjoy a local lunch while engaging with others
on topics such as sustainable agriculture and cooking with the seasons. The
culmination of the expo is the Galesburg S.O.U.P. dinner, 5 – 7:30 pm,
where you can enjoy a soup dinner while listening to sustainable projects
proposed by community members, and vote for your favorite project. The
proposal receiving the most votes will win the proceeds from the soup
dinner as well as a $2,500 prize from the Sustainable Business Center to
carry out the project.
Eric Dilts, the Sustainable Business Center’s Sustainability Manager, says
they came up with the idea for the expo as a way to showcase what the
Sustainable Business Center is all about: rebuilding the local economy,
growing sustainable businesses, encouraging clean energy, and supporting
regional efforts. “We want to show people in Galesburg just how sustainable
our region has become and showcase our burgeoning green economy” says Dilts.
Individuals, families, professionals, and business and community leaders
are all invited to attend the expo’s events to make connections, share
ideas, and start a sustainable dialogue within West Central Illinois.
