>>Black Lawmakers Hold Fate Of Gay Marriage

(Chicago, IL)  --  The fate of gay marriage in Illinois could be in the hands of African American lawmakers.  Former state senator James Meeks, who also pastors a mega-church in Chicago, is lobbying them to vote against the bill.  Meeks is the voice behind radio ads and a robo-call, claiming the family structure is in serious jeopardy if same-sex marriage is legalized. The African American community as a whole is largely opposed to gay marriage because of its deep religious roots.  Still hundreds of African American religious leaders disagree with Meeks and have asked lawmakers to vote in favor of the proposal, calling it a matter of civil rights.
