Rock Against Rape Raises Awareness of Sexual Assault for All Ages

On April 13, the Western Illinois Regional Council-Community Action Agency (WIRC-CAA) Victim Services will hold its 8th annual Rock Against Rape at the American Legion Post 6 at 221 East Washington Street in Macomb from 3-11 p.m..  All ages are welcome.   “We are excited with the variety of music this year, said Josh Mercer the coordinator of the event. “I think we will have something for everyone from Bluegrass to Rock.”  Bands include Frank F. Sidney’s Western Bandit Volunteers; Luther Heggs; Off the Davenport; Raw Mojo; Steaming Pyle; Texas Fire Juice; and The Elongated Man.  The cover charge is $5, with food and drinks available for purchase by the American Legion.

By sponsoring Rock Against Rape, Victim Services hopes to bring awareness of sexual assault directly to the community.  Although young people primarily women ages 18-24, are the most vulnerable to sexual violence the event is now open to junior high and high school students in an effort to broaden awareness.

All proceeds go to WIRC-CAA Victim Services, which provides assistance to survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence in Hancock, Henderson, McDonough and Warren counties.
