Director of College for Kids at Monmouth College Kathy Mainz (Minds pronunciation) said programs for gifted children have been on the budgetary chopping block for some time.



Mainz said College for Kids also helps gifted children with socialization skills. Mainz said College for Kids is an important opportunity for gifted students.



Other classes include mathematics, business, logic and problem solving. Mainz said there were new offerings this year.



The program was started 33 years ago by Ester White. Last year 450 kids attended, students from second through eighth grade can attend. College for Kids is scheduled June 10-21 and this year will be the first offered in the college's new Science/Business Center.
