Bears Sign Mills, Washington
(Chicago, IL) -- The Chicago Bears have signed a pair of draft picks to four-year contracts. They are former Louisiana Tech offensive tackle Jordan Mills, who was selected last weekend in the fifth round, and defensive end Cornelius Washington, who was taken in the sixth round out of Georgia. Rookie minicamp begins next week at Halas Hall.
Cubs Cruise Past Padres
(Chicago, IL) -- Dioner Navarro hit a two-run double and Starlin Castro plated a run and scored twice as the Cubs cruised past the Padres, 6-2, at Wrigley Field. Nate Schierholtz, Luis Valbuena and pitcher Scott Feldman also drove in a run each for the Northsiders, who have won two of the first three in this four-game set. Feldman struck out 12 while allowing two runs over nine full innings as he improved to 2-and-3 with his first career complete game. The Cubs and Padres close the four-game series today.
Cubs Could Leave Wrigley If Improvement Plan Isn't Approved
(Chicago, IL) -- Chicago Cubs owner Tom Ricketts is threatening to the pull the team out of Wrigley Field if 300-million dollars in upgrades for the stadium aren't approved. Ricketts told the City Club of Chicago yesterday the team is committed to staying at Wrigley, but needs a six-thousand-square-foot scoreboard in left field, a large sign in right field and advertising on a hotel to be built by the stadium. There's no word on when the City Council could vote on the measure.
White Sox Rip Rangers
(Arlington, TX) -- Alejandro De Aza launched a two-run homer as the White Sox took down the Rangers, 5-2. Conor Gillaspie addled a solo shot to help Chicago stop a three-game skid. Chris Sale fanned seven over seven innings of two-run ball to improve to 3-and-2. Addison Reed closed things out for his ninth save. The Sox and Rangers end the series tonight.
Bulls Host Nets
(Chicago, IL) -- The Chicago Bulls look to advance for the second time this postseason tonight when they host the Brooklyn Nets. The Bulls failed to win their best-of-seven Eastern Conference quarterfinal series on Monday with a 110-91 loss in New York. The Bulls are up 3-2 in the set.
Blackhawks, Pens To Play At Soldier Field Next March
(Chicago, IL) -- Soldier Field will play host to NHL hockey next year. The league announced that the Blackhawks and Penguins will face off at the home of the NFL's Bears on March 1, 2014. It's just one in a series of outdoor games the NHL is planning for next season. The Blackhawks previously hosted the Red Wings at Wrigley Field in the Winter Classic on New Year's Day in 2009. The Pens played outdoor Winter Classic games in 2008 at Buffalo and 2011 against Washington.
Blackhawks Host Wild Friday
(Chicago, IL) -- The Chicago Blackhawks welcome in the Minnesota Wild on Friday for Game Two of their best-of-seven Western Conference quarterfinals. The Blackhawks are up 1-0 after defeating the Wild 2-1 in overtime on Tuesday. Game Three is on Sunday in St. Paul.
Fire To Host Mexican Club
(Chicago, IL) -- The Chicago Fire will host 10-time Mexican Primera Division champion Club America on Wednesday, July 10th. The team announced the international friendly yesterday. Tickets go on sale tomorrow. The Fire are 0-and-2 all-time against the Mexican side.
