Congresswoman Cheri Bustos presented replacement military awards to Jason Bates of Galva, the grandson of Cpl. Floyd Lee Wolf, who served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. Cpl. Wolf was born in Annawan in Henry County in 1923 and died in 1985. Wolf’s original awards were lost due to flooding in his home’s basement.
Bates approached Bustos earlier this year to see if she could help him acquire these replacement awards on his grandfather's behalf. Bustos’ office was able to reach out to the National Personnel Records Center on his behalf, provide him with all the necessary paperwork and then send in his request. The entire process took less than two months.
“It was an honor to present Jason with the Army replacement medals that his grandfather earned during his brave service to our country during World War II,” Congresswoman Bustos said. “I know I speak for all Americans when I say that I am forever grateful to the service of the men and women who put their lives on the line to defend the freedoms we enjoy here at home.”
