Wentzville Mother Shoots Son, Kills Herself

(Wentzville, MO)  --  A Wentzville boy has been upgraded to serious condition, after his mom apparently shot him before turning the gun on herself.  Police identify the mother as 44-year-old Laurie Anderson.  They say her son called 911 Saturday and told dispatchers she'd shot him and then committed suicide.  The teen, whose name and exact age haven't been released, was found lying in the driveway.  Anderson was found dead inside the family's home.

Illinois Family Killer Planned His Attack

(Manchester, IL)  --  The man who killed five people in Manchester, Illinois planned the attack.  Illinois State Police say Rick Smith stayed within 25 miles of the small town in the days leading up to the murders.  He broke into a home on East Street last Wednesday and shot everyone inside, including a six-year-old who survived the ordeal.  Police say Smith had been involved in an ongoing domestic dispute with 65-year-old Jo Ann Sinclair, who was his daughter's grandmother.  He was killed during a gunfight with police.

Teen Critical After Shooting

(St. Louis, MO)  --  A teen is in critical condition this morning.  Police responded to a call yesterday in north St. Louis, just east of Halls Ferry Road.  That's where they found the 16-year-old victim.  He'd been shot in the chest, and was rushed to an area hospital.  No word on whether any suspects are in custody.

Biondi To Step Down As SLU President

(St. Louis, MO)  --  The embattled president of St. Louis University says he's stepping down.  Father Lawrence Biondi made the surprise announcement at a gala in honor of his 25th anniversary at SLU.  Last year, faculty members approved a vote of no confidence against him, and students also staged protests.  Biondi says he'll stay with the school until his replacement is found.

Illinois Gets More Time To Consider Appeal

(Undated)  --  Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan is getting more time to decide whether she'll appeal a ruling which requires the state to pass a concealed-carry law by June 9th.  Otherwise, people in Illinois will automatically get the right to carry guns in public, with limited restrictions.  Madigan had until May 23rd to appeal the ruling, but the Supreme Court says she can have 30 more days to make the decision. 

Metro East Bar Held Up Overnight

(Shiloh, IL)  --  Police are investigating an overnight hold up at a Metro East Bar.  An armed suspect is sought after robbing 54th Street Grill & Bar in Shiloh around 1 a.m.  He managed to escape on foot and no one at the restaurant was reportedly injured. 

Large Turnout Expected At Meeting On Proposed County Walmart

(Hazelwood, MO)  --  A large turnout is expected at tonight's meeting on a proposed Walmart in south city.  Residents will not be allowed any input as the St. Louis County's Planning Commission makes recommendations for the proposed site on Tesson Ferry just south of Butler Hill.  No word on when the full council will address the matter.

Weekend River Rescues

(St. Louis County, MO)  --  High waters led to several weekend river rescues.  It took crews nearly an hour to save three men after their canoe capsized Sunday on the Meramec River.  Early Saturday a car drove into high water near DeSoto leaving its three occupants stranded.  They were also pulled to safety.

Normandy High Dubbed Region's Most Dangerous

(Normandy, MO)  --  Normandy High School is dubbed the regions "Most Dangerous."  The distinction comes from the "St. Louis Post Dispatch" after reviewing the state's disciplinary incident rates.  The rate of discipline incidents at Normandy reportedly doubled over a three-year period.  The only school with a higher rate was Central Academy of Academic Excellence in Kansas City.                      

Upgraded Condition For Teen Shot By Mother

(Wentzville, MO)  --  A teen shot by his mother before she killed herself is upgraded to stable condition this morning.  The shooting happened Saturday afternoon at a home on Niagra Drive in Wentzville.  Forty-four-year old Laurie Anderson was reportedly a teacher at "Kids 'R' Kids," a local learning academy.    

Missouri Troopers Participate In "Operation Lifesaver"

(St. Louis, MO)  --  May 8th marks the collaboration between railroads and local law enforcement to remind motorists about railroad crossing safety.  Statistically over the last two years, four crossing crashes and six trespassing incidents on railroad property have resulted in six fatalities across the region.  Forty-five countries will participate in "International Level Crossing Awareness Day."  

Franklin County Teen Wins National Recognition

(Franklin County, MO)  --  A Franklin County teen wins national recognition for his artistic talents.  Peter Coulter, of Washington, Missouri, won the 2013 Federal Junior Duck Stamp Contest.  His acrylic painting of snow geese will don the 2013-2014 Junior Duck Stamp, which sells for five dollars, to raise funds for environmental education.
