A two-time all-conference baseball player for the Prairie Fire can add another honor to his list of accomplishments.
Senior outfielder Caleb Weaver (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg), the 2013 Midwest Conference South Division Positional Co-Player of the Year, has been named an All-Central Region Second Team selection by D3baseball.com. The website released its first, second, and third team picks from eight regions on Monday, May 20.
Weaver helped lead Knox to the Midwest Conference South Division title and a second straight trip to the Midwest Conference Tournament in 2013. The Prairie Fire finished the season with a 22-13 record, including a 13-3 mark in league games. Knox placed third at the conference tourney and set school records for wins in a season as well as conference victories.
Weaver led the Fire with a .396 average, four home runs and 39 RBIs. He set new Knox baseball records with 57 hits and 84 total bases while tying the record for most doubles in a season with 15.
Weaver ranked in the top five in the Midwest Conference in six offensive categories. He was second in doubles, third in slugging percentage (.583), fourth in batting average and runs batted in, tied for fourth in hits, and fifth in total bases.
Weaver was an All-MWC South First Team selection both years he played at Knox. He shared the South Division Positional Co-Player of the Year honor with Zach Rogers, a senior shortstop from Cornell College. Rogers was named the D3baseball.com All-Central Region Player of the Year.
Five additional players from the Midwest Conference earned All-Central Region second or third team recognition.
D3baseball.com received more than 700 nominations for all-region consideration.
Weaver is Knox College’s third all-region baseball player since 2002. He joins Scott Rans (2002) and Matt Briggs (2006), who was also the 2006 Midwest Conference South Division Co-Player of the Year.
