Brian Urlacher Announces Retirement

(Chicago, IL)  --  Longtime Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher is retiring.  He made the announcement yesterday.  The 34-year-old says the decision "became pretty clear" when he thought about the fact he could retire after a 13-year career with only one team.  Urlacher adds he'll miss his teammates, coaches and Bears fans, but leaves the game with no regrets.  He became a free agent in March after being unable to reach a contract with the Bears.

Blackhawks At Red Wings

(Detroit, MI)  --  The Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings hit the ice at Joe Louis Arena tonight for Game Four of their Western Conference semifinals.  The Blackhawks down 2-1 in the best-of-seven series after a 3-1 loss on Monday in Detroit.  The set shifts back to Chicago on Saturday for Game Five.

Pirates Need Only One To Top Cubs

(Pittsburgh, PA)  --  Francisco Liriano out-dueled Jeff Samardzija [[ Suh-MAR-juh ]] to lead the Pirates past the Cubs 1-0.  Samardzija was the hard-luck losing pitcher despite allowing a run on three hits with eight strikeouts.  He's 2-and-6.  Welington Castillo had two of Chicago's four hits.  The Cubs and Bucs end the series today.

Camp Lands On DL

(Pittsburgh, PA)  --  The Cubs placed reliever Shawn Camp on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right big toe.  Camp has struggled throughout this season, having surrendered 14 runs and 26  hits in just 16-and-two-thirds innings.  To fill the roster spot, the Cubs recalled fellow right-hander Rafael Dolis from Triple-A Iowa.  Dolis posted a 1-and-0 record with a 5.40 ERA and one save over 12 games with the I-Cubs this season.

Buchholz Stays Perfect As BoSox Beat White Sox

(Chicago, IL)  --  Clay Buchholz fired seven strong innings to remain perfect on the season as the Red Sox beat the White Sox 6-2 to avoid a three-game sweep at U.S. Cellular Field.  Paul Konerko homered and Alex Rios plated the other run for the Pale Hose, who have dropped three-of-five.  Hector Santiago fell to 1-and-3 with the loss, despite striking out nine in six innings of two-run ball.  The Sox and Marlins begin a three-game series on Friday.
