Sophomore Cody Reiber shot an even-par 72 and the Carl Sandburg College men’s golf team is tied for 12th after the second round of the NJCAA Division II national tournament Wednesday at Goose Pond Colony. The Chargers posted a 304 as a team during the second round, and their two-day total of 606 has them tied with Allegany (Md.) and three strokes behind 11th-place Murray State (Okla.). First-round leader South Mountain (Ariz.) shot 285 as a team during the second round and is at 7 under for the tournament, eight shots ahead of Walters State (Tenn.).
“We didn’t shoot ourselves out of a chance at finishing in the top 10, but we didn’t exactly help ourselves today either,” Sandburg coach Ryan Twaddle said. “The good news is we still have two days to show we can play better.”
Reiber closed his round with a 3-under-par 33 on the back nine and is in an eight-way tie for 22nd individually at 1 over for the tournament. Freshman Joey Juergens matched his 75 from the first round and is tied for 53rd overall at 6 over. Sophomore Mark Dockstader (161, 106th) added a 78, and sophomore Chad Hatch (152, T-64th) turned in a 79 on Wednesday.
