Cubs Win Battle Of Aces Over Cardinals
(St. Louis, MO) -- Jeff Samardzija [[ Suh-mar-juh ]] pitched eight-and-one-third innings and allowed two runs on seven hits to get the win, as the Cubs topped the Cardinals and ace Adam Wainwright 4-2 at Busch Stadium. Ryan Sweeney and Cody Ransom hit home runs for the Cubs. Carlos Beltran had two hits including a home run for the Cards and Yadier Molina had three hits. Wainwright allowed four runs on seven hits in seven innings but took the loss to snap a five-start winning streak. He's 10-and-4 on the season.
Cubs, Cardinals Meet Again
(St. Louis, MO) -- The Cubs and Cardinals have split the first two games of their four-game series at Busch Stadium. Tonight is the third game with Edwin Jackson of Chicago facing Jake Westbrook of the Cardinals. This is the first series of the season between the two N-L Central rivals with 15 games left to play.
Cardinals Ink Top Draft Pick
(St. Louis, MO) -- The St. Louis Cardinals signed first round draft pick Rob Kaminsky and eight other players Tuesday. The 18-year-old pitcher just finished high school in New Jersey. The club also signed six other draft picks and two non-drafted free agents.
Former Drake Coach Joins Tigers
(Columbia, MO) -- Missouri head basketball coach Frank Haith has hired a new assistant to his staff. He's former Drake head coach Mark Phelps, the "St. Louis Post Dispatch" reported Tuesday. Phelps was fired after five seasons at the Missouri Valley Conference school.
