Rep. Jil Tracy Appointed as Republican Member of Pension Conference Committee. Tracy (R-Quincy) a statement after being appointed to the Illinois General Assembly Conference Committee assigned with forging a pension reform compromise.
“We said all year that tackling our pension mess must be priority number one if we are going to get our fiscal house in order. Here we are three weeks after spring session has adjourned and just now we are bringing Senators and House members together to hammer out legislation that can make it to the Governor’s desk.
“Each day we delay in passing real reform, our pension systems are inching that much closer to becoming insolvent. Each day we delay in passing meaningful changes to our pensions systems, public employees, teachers and retirees are seeing their future retirement benefits put in jeopardy. Our state, our employees cannot afford to wait any longer.
“I hope that this conference committee will bring some new ideas to the table, which ultimately produce a comprehensive plan that can be agreed to by the majority of members.”
Representative Jil Tracy will join six democrats and three other republicans to form the pension conference committee, comprised of five members from each chamber. The committee will be tasked with creating legislation to reform Illinois’ pension systems, which by most estimates carry over $100 billion liability.
Governor Quinn called a special session on June 19th, in which the House and Senate agreed to form the special pension conference committee between the two chambers. The Governor has set a deadline of July 9th for the committee to produce a comprehensive pension reform proposal.
