Public Meeting for East Main Street underpass project to be held
Galesburg, IL (June 25, 2013) The city of Galesburg will conduct an open house public meeting on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at City Hall in the Council Chambers regarding the proposed U.S. 150 (East Main Street) underpass bridge below the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe (BNSF) railroad tracks in downtown Galesburg. All interested persons are invited to attend. Preliminary right-of-way acquisition limits will be shown as well as a concept rendering of the underpass. Public input is being sought on the proposed design of the project. This will be an open house. No formal presentation will be made.
The proposed improvement consists of constructing retaining walls and a two span underpass bridge below the BNSF railroad tracks on East Main Street. This project will include the disconnection of North Pearl Street as well as Sumner Street from East Main Street. Alternate roadway connections for both streets are proposed.
City personnel will be available to address questions and comments citizens may have about the project and about land acquisition policies and procedures. Related exhibits, maps and plans will also be available for public review and comment.
This meeting will be accessible to persons with a disability in compliance with current accessibility standards prepared by the capital development board. Persons with a disability planning to attend and needing special accommodations should contact Wayne Carl, City Engineer by July 2, 2013. The contact may be by telephone, in writing, by fax, or by email.
