>>Pension Committee To Meet Again Next Week
(Chicago, IL) -- There aren’t many new ideas on the table when it comes to pension reform. Ten lawmakers met in Chicago yesterday and heard testimony from several state agencies, unions, and others on how to get to the bottom of the 97-billion dollar pension problem. Members of the committee say they’re not completely sold on finding middle ground between the House and Senate versions of pension reform, and plan to hear how other ideas might offer a solution. Governor Quinn would like the committee to meet around the clock, until they’ve hashed out a deal but the committee is taking a few days off. They’ll meet again next Wednesday, July 3rd at 9:00a.m. in Chicago, less than one week before Quinn wants them to have a final deal.

(Springfield, IL) -- The Illinois Lottery is offering a new ticket, designed to help people save money at the pump. The new two dollar “Free Gas” ticket comes with a top prize of 15-thousand dollars-worth of free gas. Lottery officials say that’s a prize any driver would love considering the cost of gas these days. The Illinois Lottery is also hosting a Fourth of July Raffle, the ten dollar ticket will come with a million dollar top prize.
>>Electric Rates Going Up In Champaign
(Champaign, IL) -- Electric bills for some Champaign residents will be more expensive starting next month. Residents who get electricity through the municipal electric aggregation program will see a three-point-nine-percent hike. The increase will cover increased tariffs imposed by regulating agencies. The increase doesn't apply to Urbana residents.
>>Rantoul Man Drowns In Drainage Ditch
(Rantoul, IL) -- A Rantoul man is dead after drowning in a drainage ditch. Fifty four year old Robert McDonald crashed his truck Wednesday night between County Road 1200 East and 2400 North, near Thomasboro. He apparently slipped into the ditch when he tried to get out of the truck. Polie believe the man may have been intoxicated but an investigation is still underway.

(Morton, IL) -- The world’s largest pumpkin producer is being hailed as one of the best places to raise a family. “Family Circle Magazine” puts Morton, Illinois at number ten on their list, citing its family-friendly atmosphere, great access to healthcare, and low crime rate. The town of about 16-thousand is located just outside Peoria and offers a top notch education for kids. Volunteers are also very involved in community events, including charitable fundraisers, parades, and even an annual pumpkin smash.
