Cardinals Edge Marlins
(St. Louis, MO) -- Matt Holliday hit a solo home run and Lance Lynn tossed seven strong innings as the Cardinals edged the Marlins, 3-2, to complete at three-game sweep at Busch Stadium. Lynn gave up two runs on seven hits while striking out seven to earn his first win since June 20. He is now 11-and-3. Carlos Beltran had two hits and stole home for the Cardinals, winners of four of their last five games. Edward Mujica [[ Moo-HEE-Caw ]] worked a perfect ninth inning for his 23rd save of the season.
Cardinals Hosting Houston Next
(St. Louis, MO) -- The Cards get a day off today before the Houston Astros come to town to start a two-game series tomorrow. Recently named National League All-Star Adam Wainwright gets the start in the series opener. Wainwright is 11-and-5 with a 2-point-36 earned run average this season and the Cardinals have won four of their last five games.
Cards Land Five In All-Star Game
(Undated) -- Five Cardinals are heading to the All-Star Game. Yadier Molina was elected as the starter at catcher while Carlos Beltran will also start in the outfield. Second baseman Matt Carpenter and first baseman Allen Craig are also on the roster, as is pitcher Adam Wainwright. The game will be played a week from tomorrow at Citi Field in New York.
Cardinals' Molina Expected Back Tuesday
(St. Louis, MO) -- Cardinals All-Star catcher Yadier Molina missed the weekend's games with Miami due to right knee inflammation. He's expected to return to action tonight after an MRI showed no further damage. Molina told the "St. Louis Post Dispatch" that he also hopes to play in next week's All-Star Game in New York.
Blues Sign Center Roy
(St. Louis, MO) -- The Blues over the weekend announced they have agreed to a one-year, four-million-dollar contract with center Derek Roy, pending a physical. Roy played for Dallas and Vancouver last season and scored seven goals total. Roy has battled injuries throughout his career but has 168 goals in 591 career NHL games and has appeared in 45 Stanley Cup playoff games. St. Louis also signed former Vancouver center Max LaPierre to a two-year contract last Friday.
