Cardinals Hosting Houston
(St. Louis, MO) -- The Cards got a day off Monday before starting a two-game series tonight at Busch Stadium against the Houston Astros. Recently named National League All-Star Adam Wainwright gets the start in the series opener. Wainwright is 11-and-5 with a 2.36 ERA this season and the Cardinals have won four of their last five games.
Cardinals' Molina Expected Back Tuesday
(St. Louis, MO) -- Cardinals All-Star catcher Yadier Molina missed the weekend's games with Miami due to right knee inflammation. He's expected to return to action tonight after an MRI showed no further damage. Molina told the "St. Louis Post Dispatch" that he also hopes to play in next week's All-Star Game in New York.
Top Prospect Taveras Out Of Futures Game
(St. Louis, MO) -- Oscar Taveras, a top prospect in the Cardinals' organization, will miss the All-Star Futures Game for baseball's top minor-leaguers from the U.S. and around the world. Taveras has a high ankle sprain. Infielder Kolten Wong will be the only Cards' representative in the game.
Cubs Pound White Sox
(Chicago, IL) -- Alfonso Soriano went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and four runs scored as the Cubs pounded the White Sox 8-2 at U.S. Cellular Field. Dave Sappelt went 4-for-5 with two RBI while Luis Valbuena knocked in three for the Cubs. Matt Garza allowed two runs, one earned, over seven innings with six strikeouts to improve to 5-and-1. The Cubs took all four contests against their in-city rivals this season and have won three straight overall.
