Cardinals Rip Astros
(St. Louis, MO) -- Adam Wainwright limited the Astros to a run on five hits over seven innings with nine strikeouts, leading the Cardinals to a 9-5 win over Houston at Busch Stadium. Matt Carpenter had three hits, scored three times and drove in three runs. Matt Holliday hit his 13th home run of the season. Wainwright improved to 12-and-5 and Edward Mujica earned his 24th save by recording the game's final out.
Cardinals Look For Sweep Of Astros
(St. Louis, MO) -- With All-Star catcher Yadier Molina back from knee soreness, the Cardinals look for a three-game series sweep of the Astros tonight at Busch Stadium. Shelby Miller gets the start with a 9-and-6 record. The Cards have won five of their last six games and lead the NL Central by one-and-a-half games over Pittsburgh.
Cardinals Release Wigginton, trade Boggs
(St. Louis, MO) -- The Cardinals released veteran Ty Wigginton, who was struggling on offense with a .158 batting average. Also, former closer Mitchell Boggs was traded to the Colorado Rockies. Boggs was at Triple-A Memphis after struggling in St. Louis to open the season.
Cubs Trash Angels In Home Run Derby At Wrigley
(Chicago, IL) -- Alfonso Soriano hit two solo homers as the Cubs handled the Angels 7-2 at Wrigley Field. Darwin Barney added a three-run shot while Starlin Castro and Anthony Rizzo each cracked a solo blast of their own for Chicago. Travis Wood gave up two runs over six-and-two-thirds innings to improve to 6-and-6. The Cubbies have won four in-a-row and go for a series sweep tonight.
