Cards Clip Astros

(St. Louis, MO)  --  Matt Carpenter hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the seventh inning and the Cardinals held on for a 5-4 victory over the visiting Astros.  Matt Holliday also knocked in two runs for St. Louis, which swept the two-game series in Missouri.  Shelby Miller allowed three runs in five innings for a no decision.  Seth Maness picked up the win while Edward Mujica [[ moo-HE-kuh ]] added his 25th save.

Carpenter To Start Rehab In Springfield

(Undated)  --  St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Chris Carpenter will begin his rehab assignment with Double-A Springfield on Monday.  His pitch count will be limited to 60 pitches.  Carpenter tossed a simulated game prior to last night's game against the Astros.  Carpenter is on his way back from a nerve injury in his right shoulder.

Halos Hammer Cubs

(Chicago, IL)  --  Josh Hamilton homered twice and drove in five runs as the Angels hammered the Cubs 13-2 to split the two-game series in Chicago.  Jeff Samardzija [[ suh-MARD-juh ]] gave up nine runs in under five frames for the loss.  He is now 5-and-9.  Cody Ransom belted a solo homer for Chicago, which had won its last four.

Cards, Cubs End First Half

(Chicago, IL)  --  The Cardinals and Cubs end the first half of the season in Chicago with a four-game series.  The Cards send Jake Westbrook to the mound opposite Edwin Jackson for Game One tonight.  Joe Kelly goes in the second game against Carlos Villanueva on Friday afternoon.

Blues Trade Perron To Oilers

(Undated)  --  The St. Louis Blues have shipped forward David Perron to the Edmonton Oilers.  The Blues will receive forward Magnus Paajarvi and a second round pick in next season's draft.  Perron played in all 48 games last season, compiling 10 goals and 25 points for St. Louis.  he added two assists in the postseason.  Paajarvi registered nine goals and 16 points in 42 games for Edmonton.
