Cubs Blank Cardinals
(Chicago, IL) -- Edwin Jackson fired seven shutout innings to pace the Cubs to a 3-0 win over the Cardinals in Chicago. Jackson allowed three hits while striking out five as he moved to 6-and-10. Anthony Rizzo knocked in all three runs for Chicago, which has won five-of-six. Starlin Castro was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs in the win. Kevin Gregg picked up his 16th save. Allen Craig was 2-for-4 for St. Louis, which had won five in-a-row. Jake Westbrook gave up all the runs in seven frames for the loss. The series continues today.
Holliday Exits With Hamstring Injury
(Chicago, IL) -- Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday left last night's game in the fourth inning with a right hamstring injury. He was replaced by Matt Adams, who entered to play first base. Allen Craig moved into left field. Holliday is batting .269 with 13 homers and 47 RBI.
Cards Call Up Martinez
(St. Louis, MO) -- The St. Louis Cardinals have recalled pitcher Carlos Martinez from Triple-A Memphis. Martinez was 3-and-2 with a sub-two ERA in eight starts since his return to Triple-A on May 27th. The Cards optioned pitcher Michael Blazek to Memphis to make room.
Blues Finalize Deal With Roy
(St. Louis, MO) -- The St. Louis Blues have finalized a one-year contract with center Derek Roy. The deal was pending a physical exam after the two sides agreed to terms on Saturday. The contract is worth a reported four-million-dollars. The nine-year veteran split last season with Dallas and Vancouver, combining for seven goals and 21 assists in 42 games.
