Governor Pat Quinn today announced more than $4.8 million in capital investments for a road construction project near Altona in Knox County. The upgrades are part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward.

“This construction project will improve transportation safety and efficiency in Knox County,” Governor Quinn said. “Additionally, it will also employ a number of construction workers, which will help the local economy, as well.”

County Highway 4 will be reconstructed with new pavement, culverts, storm sewer and sidewalks from the BNSF railroad tracks at the eastern edge of Altona for 3.4 miles to County Highway 15. Brandt Construction Co. of Milan was the lowest of five bidders at $4,893,000. The project will be administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
