A-Rod Faces White Sox On Appeal

(Chicago, IL)  --  Despite being dealt a suspension through the 2014 season, Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez played through appeal against the White Sox last night.  A-Rod went 1-for-4 with a strikeout.  It was his first game of the season after dealing with offseason hip surgery and a quad injury.

White Sox Pound Yankees During A-Rod's Return

(Chicago, IL)  --  The White Sox made Alex Rodriguez's return to a baseball field unpleasant by beating the Yankees 8-1 at U.S. Cellular Field.  Alex Rios was 2-for-4 with four RBI while Alexei Ramirez was 4-for-5 with two RBI for Chicago.  Jose Quintana pitched six-and-two-thirds innings of one-run ball to move 6-and-3.  The Sox ended a ten-game slide with the win.

White Sox Continue Set With Yanks

(Chicago, IL)  --  The White Sox and Yankees continue their three-game series from The Cell this evening.  Chris Sale takes his 6-and-11 record to the mound for the Pale Hose.  New York will send Hiroki Kuroda to the hill.  Kuroda has a 10-and-6 record with a 2.38 ERA this year.  First pitch is set for 7:10.

Cubs Open Set With Phillies

(Philadelphia, PA)  --  The Cubs and Phillies open a three-game series from Philadelphia tonight.  Edwin Jackson will take his 7-and-11 record to the mound for Chicago.  Philadelphia counters with Kyle Kendrick, who is 9-and-8 with a 4.29 ERA.  First pitch is set for 6:05 from Citizens Bank Park.

Cubs Claim Neal From Yankees

(Philadelphia, PA)  --  The Cubs have claimed outfielder Thomas Neal off waivers from the New York Yankees.  The 25-year-old hit .325 with 29 RBI in 72 games in Triple-A this season.  He spent two stints with the Yankees spanning just 11 at-bats before he was designated for assignment last Friday.  To make room of the 40-man roster, Chicago moved Rafael Dolis to the 60-day disabled list.

Bushrod Returns As Bears Continue Camp

(Bourbonnais, IL)  --  The Bears are continuing training camp in Bourbonnais this week and starting left tackle Jermon Bushrod was back at practice yesterday.  Bushrod had missed about a week with a right calf strain.  He's hopeful to play this Friday night in the preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers.  Defensive end Julius Peppers, cornerback Kelvin Hayden and linebacker D.J. Williams remain sidelined with injuries.

College Locals Prep For Season

(Undated)  --  A number of local college football programs are back on the field preparing for the new season.  Illinois opens the season at home on August 31st against Southern Illinois.  Northwestern takes the field that same day out west against California.  Notre Dame is home on the 31st to start its season against Temple.

Sky In Action Tonight

(Rosemont, IL)  --  The Sky are back in action tonight as they host the Indiana Fever at Allstate Arena.  It's the second half of a home-and-home.  Chicago dropped the first part of the set on the road on Saturday night, 79-58.  The Sky fell to 13-and-6 with the loss, but still have the lead in the Western Conference.  Tip off is set for 7:00.

Fire Face DC United Tomorrow

(Bridgeview, IL)  --  The Fire are back on the pitch tomorrow night at Toyota Park as they host D.C. United in the U.S. Open Cup semifinals.  Chicago defeated Orlando City SC back on June 26th to advance.  United moved past the New England Revolution.  The other semifinal pits the Portland Timbers up against Real Salt Lake.
