Cardinals Top Cubs
(St. Louis, MO) -- Matt Carpenter and Allen Craig had three hits each to lead the Cardinals over the Cubs 8-4 at Busch Stadium. David Freese and Jon Jay each drove in a pair of runs as the Cards broke open a close game with a single run in the seventh inning and two in the eighth. Randy Choate got the win while Edward Mujica earned his 31st save of the season. The Cardinals avoided a three-game series sweep and snapped a four-game losing streak.
Pujols Angry About Steroid Use Accusation
(Anaheim, CA) -- Former Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols is threatening to sue former Redbird and St. Louis sports-talk radio show host Jack Clark after Pujols was accused of using performance-enhancing drugs. Clark said twice over the past week on WGNU that Pujols former trainer Chris Mihlfeld told Clark he had twice given Pujols steroids shots. The "Orange County Register" quotes a statement by Pujols, in which he says "I am currently in the process of taking legal action against Jack Clark and WGNU 920 AM. I am going to send a message that you cannot act in a reckless manner, like they have." Clark has since been removed from the air.
Cardinals Get Day Off
(St. Louis, MO) -- The Cardinals get today off before opening a key series against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday at Busch Stadium. Pittsburgh has a three-game lead in the NL Central over second-place St. Louis. Adam Wainwright starts the series opener for the Cards.
Cubs Hosting Reds
(Chicago, IL) -- The Cubs look to get back on the winning track tonight when they host the Cincinnati Reds at Wrigley Field. Travis Wood gets the start for Chicago with a 7-and-8 record. The Cubs are 13 games behind the Reds for third place in the NL Central.
Rams' Fisher Reacts To Commentator Criticism
(Earth City, MO) -- Rams coaches aren't happy with the criticism from Browns TV commentator and former NFL quarterback Bernie Kosar. Kosar called the game on Thursday and ripped Rams' receivers, receivers coach Ray Sherman and backup quarterback Kellen Clemens. Head coach Jeff Fisher told the "St. Louis Post Dispatch" that he lost respect for Kosar and that he didn't think the comments were justified.
