Bears Gear Up For Final Preseason Game

(Lake Forest, IL)  --  The Bears are gearing up for their final preseason game of the season.  Chicago welcomes the Cleveland Browns to Soldier Field on Thursday night.  After losing their first preseason game to the Panthers, the Bears won their next two over the Chargers and Raiders.  Chicago opens the regular season a week from Sunday at home against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Bears To Make One More Move Today

(Lake Forest, IL)  --  The Bears will have to make one more roster move today to get down to the NFL-mandated 75-man limit.  Chicago waived 14 players on Sunday, including wide receiver Devin Aromashodu and safety Tom Zbikowski.  All NFL teams must be down to 75 players by 3:00 today and down to a 53-man roster by 5:00 on Saturday.

Greinke, Dodgers Cruise Past Cubs

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  Zack Greinke dominated on the mound as the Dodgers cruised to a 6-2 win over the Cubs in the opener of a three-game series at Chavez Ravine.  He struck out nine and held Chicago to five hits and two runs in eight-and-two-thirds innings.  Brian Bogusevic hit a two-run double in the ninth inning for Chicago, which has lost six-of-seven.  Jake Arrieta allowed four runs in five frames as he slipped to 1-and-1 with the Cubs and 2-and-3 overall.

Cubs Meet Dodgers Again

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  The Cubs and Dodgers square off again tonight from Los Angeles in the middle contest of three.  Edwin Jackson gets the nod for the Cubbies, who have lost six out of seven.  The Dodgers counter with Ricky Nolasco, who is 10-and-9 on the year.  First pitch is set for 9:10.

Samardzija Named NL Co-PoW

(New York, NY)  --  Cubs starter Jeff Samardzija is being honored as the National League's co-Player of the Week.  He shares the award with Marlins rookie pitcher Jose Fernandez.  Samardzija went 2-and-0 over 17 innings pitched and tossed his second complete game of the season in an 11-1 win over the Nationals.  It's his first weekly award.

Astros Outslug White Sox

(Chicago, IL)  --  Matt Dominguez and Cris Carter hit back-to-back homers in the top of the ninth to lift the Astros to a 10-8 win over the White Sox in the first of three on the North Side.  Adam Dunn hit his 30th long ball of the season in the loss.  It's the 10th time he's hit 30 homers or more in his career.  Addison Reed took the loss for Chicago, which fell to 54-and-76.

White Sox, Astros Meet Again

(Chicago, IL)  --  The White Sox and Astros meet tonight in the second of three from The Cell.  Chicago had won eight out of nine prior to last night's 10-8 defeat in the series opener.  Jose Quintana looks to get the Sox back on track tonight while Houston counters with Paul Clemens.  First pitch is set for 7:10.

Illinois Set To Face Salukis

(Champaign, IL)  --  Illinois is just days away from kicking off the new football season.  The Fighting Illini are set to host the Southern Illinois Salukis on Saturday at Memorial Stadium.  The contest will kickoff at 11:00 a.m. and air on the Big Ten Network.

Wildcats Ready For Road Trip

(Evanston, IL)  --  Northwestern is preparing for a road trip to start the season.  The Wildcats will head to Northern California for Saturday night's clash with the Cal Golden Bears.  The contest is scheduled to kick off at 9:30 and will air on ESPN2.

Notre Dame Preps For Owls

(South Bend, IN)  --  Notre Dame's season opener is drawing closer.  The Fighting Irish look to get the bad taste of last year's BCS Championship Game defeat out of their mouth when they host the Temple Owls at Notre Dame Stadium this Saturday.  The opener is scheduled for a 3:30 kickoff and will be broadcast on NBC.

Fire Gear Up For Dynamo

(Bridgeview, IL)  --  With ten games remaining in the MLS season, the Fire are looking to make a playoff push.  Chicago plays six games in the month of September, starting with Sunday's home clash against the Houston Dynamo.  The Fire are currently 10-10-and-4 and two points out of a playoff spot.  Houston is just ahead in a tie with New England for the final spot at 36 points.

Sky Off Until Saturday

(Rosemont, IL)  --  The Eastern Conference-leading Sky have a few more days before their next action.  Chicago completes a home-and-home set with the Atlanta Dream on Saturday at Allstate Arena.  The Sky have won five straight and already clinched their first playoff berth in franchise history.  Chicago is four-and-a-half games up on Atlanta for the top spot in the conference with six games to go.
