Bears Cut Blanchard To Reduce Roster To 75

(Lake Forest, IL)  --  The Bears are now down to a league-mandated 75-man roster.  Chicago reached an injury settlement with quarterback Matt Blanchard to reach the number.  The second-year player fractured a knuckle on his left hand in Chicago's preseason win over the Chargers.  The team will have to make more cuts on Saturday evening when each NFL team is required to finalize its 53-man roster.

Bears Prep For Preseason Finale

(Lake Forest, IL)  --  The Bears will be on the field tomorrow night for their preseason finale.  Chicago hosts the Cleveland Browns at Soldier Field for a 7:00 kickoff.  Yesterday wide receiver Brandon Marshall expressed frustration in his recovery from offseason hip surgery and says the Bears could be pushing him a little harder than he'd like.  The expectation is that Marshall will be 100-percent before Chicago's regular-season opener against Cincinnati.

Cubs Edge Kershaw, Dodgers

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  Travis Wood outpitched Clayton Kershaw to lead the Cubs in a 3-2 win over the Dodgers last night in Los Angeles.  Wood allowed an unearned run over seven innings while striking out six to move to 8-and-10.  Kevin Gregg logged his 27th save for Chicago, which had lost six out of seven.  Starlin Castro had two hits and an RBI from the leadoff spot while Dioner Navarro also knocked in a run and had two hits.

Cubs Conclude Series In LA

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  The Cubs and Dodgers wrap up their three-game series from Chavez Ravine this afternoon.  Edwin Jackson gets the call for Chicago, which is looking to win a series for the first time in four tries.  Los Angeles sends Ricky Nolasco to the hill.  First pitch is set for 2:10.

Cubs Name Players For AFL Team

(Mesa, AZ)  --  The Cubs will have eight prospects in the Arizona Fall League this year.  Outfielder Jorge Soler will be joined by shortstop Javier Baez, center fielder Albert Almora and third baseman Kris Bryant among position players.  Pitchers Dallas Beeler, Matt Loosen, Armando Rivero and Arodys Vizcaino will also join the Mesa Solar Sox squad.  Almora will be on the taxi squad and can only play Wednesdays and Sundays.

White Sox Rally Past Astros

(Chicago, IL)  --  The White Sox rallied for three runs in the bottom of the eighth to pull out a 4-3 win over the Astros last night at The Cell.  Jordan Danks singled in two runs while Paul Konerko plated another for Chicago, which has won three out of four.  Jose Quintana struck out eight and allowed three runs over seven-and-two-thirds innings while Donnie Veal came on to record the win.  Addison Reed notched his 36th save in the victory.

White Sox Close Series With Houston

(Chicago, IL)  --  The White Sox and Astros close out their three-game series tonight at The Cell with the rubber match.  Left-hander Chris Sale takes the mound for Chicago.  The Astros counter with Jarred Cosart.  First pitch is set for 7:10.

White Sox Have Six On AFL Team

(Glendale, AZ)  --  The White Sox are sending four pitchers and two infielders to this year's Arizona Fall League.  Pitchers Chris Bassitt, Charlie Leesman, Stephen McCray and Kevin Vance will join the Glendale Desert Dogs.  Infielders Micah Johnson and Marcus Semien are also on the squad.  Play runs from October 8th through November 16th.

Former NBA-er Pippen Won't Face Assault Charges

(Malibu, CA)  --  Former Bulls star Scottie Pippen will not face charges for assault stemming from an incident at a Malibu restaurant in late June.  The Los Angeles County district attorney's office has determined that there is not enough evidence to charge Pippen with a crime.  The seven-time NBA All-Star allegedly pushed and spat at a man during an altercation that left the other man unconscious.

Illinois Kicks Off Saturday

(Champaign, IL)  --  Illinois kicks off the football season on Saturday afternoon.  The Fighting Illini host Southern Illinois at Memorial Stadium.  The game kicks off at 11:00 a.m. and will air on the Big Ten Network.

Wildcats Head To California

(Berkeley, CA)  --  Northwestern hits the road this week to open the college football season.  The Wildcats will square off with the California Golden Bears on Saturday night.  The contest kicks off at 9:30 and will air on ESPN2.

Irish Finalize Prep For Temple

(South Bend, IN)  --  Notre Dame is getting hyped for its season opener.  The Fighting Irish welcome the Temple Owls to Notre Dame Stadium on Saturday.  The contest is scheduled for a 3:30 kickoff and will be broadcast on NBC.

Fire Prepare For Houston

(Bridgeview, IL)  --  The Fire start a playoff push this Sunday with a home game against the Houston Dynamo.  Chicago is currently 10-10-and-4, just two points out of a playoff spot.  Houston is currently tied with New England for that final spot at 36 points.

Sky Back In Action Saturday

(Rosemont, IL)  --  The playoff-bound Chicago Sky have a few more days before their next game.  The Sky host the Atlanta Dream on Saturday at Allstate Arena to complete a home-and-home set.  Chicago has won five straight to move to 20-and-8 and has already clinched a postseason berth for the first time in franchise history.
