>>Enyart Skeptical About Syrian Strike

(Belleville, IL)  --  Congressman Bill Enyart is still skeptical about a possible U.S. strike against Syria.  The former Adjunct General with the Illinois National Guard says he doesn’t doubt Syria used chemical weapons on its own people but, the reality is the U.S. can’t go at it alone.  He says the U.S. should make sure it has support from other nations before making a final decision.  Congress is supposed to debate the issue in the coming week.  Enyart says it’s too soon to know what the final vote will be. 

>>Dillard To Announce Running Mate

(Quincy, IL)  --  State Senator Kirk Dillard is announcing his running mate today.  The Republican candidate for governor is holding a press conference at 8:00 this morning in Quincy, which is where state rep Jil Tracy is from.  She’s expected to run with Dillard as lieutenant governor next year.  Tracy has served in the legislature since 2006 and is currently serving on the committee charged with finding a fix for the state’s pension problem.

>>Escaped Inmate Still On The Loose

(Robinson, IL)  --  People in and around Robinson should be on the lookout for an escaped inmate that’s still on the loose.  Officials believe Jared Carter may still in the area and they urge everyone to report any suspicious activity.  DOC Spokesman Tom Shaer says they’ll investigate every lead and, he says no piece of information is too small.  Carter is six-feet-tall, weighing about 210 pounds, with blonde hair, and a long goatee beard.  So far, there’s no reason to believe Carter is armed or that he’s hurt anyone since he escaped last Friday.

>>Cop Impersonator Reported In Sangamon County

(Sangamon County, IL)  --  Sangamon County Police are looking for a cop impersonator.   The “State Journal Register” reports a 79-year-old man was driving near Curran and Lick Roads yesterday when a red or maroon SUV flashed orange and yellow lights, trying to get him to pull over.  The suspect was a passenger in the SUV.  He’s described as a white male in his mid-20s, about five-feet-eight-inches tall, with dark hair and a thin build.  Anyone with information should contact police.

(Edwardsville, IL)  --  Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville is ranked among the top places in the nation to earn a master's degree.  “Washington Monthly Magazine” puts SIUE at number 23 out of nearly 700 universities on the list. It’s the fourth year in a row that the university has been recognized.  SIUE also landed on the magazine's "Best Bang for the Buck" list.

IL Man Arrested For Attacking Woman At Campsite

(Undated)  --  An Illinois man is under arrest in connection with a weekend attack in Indiana.  Authorities say Michael Zimny of Glenwood seriously injured a woman from Columbia City while at Jellystone Campground.  The victim was taken in critical condition to a Fort Wayne hospital.  Witnesses say Zimny attacked the woman during an argument over use of a campsite clothes dryer.    

>>Manhunt On For Escaped Inmate

(Robinson, IL)  --  An escaped inmate from an Illinois prison is the focus of manhunt near Terre Haute, Indiana.  Authorities aren't certain how Jared Carter is getting around.  Carter escaped from a prison in Robinson, Illinois early Friday.  He is known to frequent the towns of Carlyle and Highland and in Bond County in southern Illinois.

>>Report: Midlothian Cop Subject Of Investigation

(Chicago, IL)  --  A federal grand jury is seeking information about allegations of misconduct by a former top cop from Chicago's suburbs.  The "Tribune" says the allegations surround Midlothian police force veteran Steven Zamiar.  The Sergeant helped oversee the department until just recently.  Federal investigators haven't elaborated on what the allegations might be.

>>IL Couple, Married 71 Years, Die Hours Apart

(Rockford, IL)  --   An Illinois couple married for over 70 years dies just hours apart.  The "Register-Star" says Robert and Nora Viands died within 16 hours of each other last week while in hospice care in northern Illinois.  Ninety-two-year-old Robert Viands suffered from Parkinson's and died Wednesday.  Nora passed away hours later from pneumonia complications.  A joint funeral was scheduled over the weekend.
