Galesburg Civic Arts Center to showcase work by Knoxville native Davis
"Now and Then", an exhibition of paintings by Knoxville, Illinois native Larry Jon Davis will be on display from October 10 – 31, 2013 in the Blick Gallery at the Galesburg Civic Arts Center. A free opening reception will take place Friday October 11, from 6-8pm.
Davis began drawing and painting landscapes and human figures over 50 years ago. In reference to his show title, Now refers to his present works, which are mostly abstract paintings, and Then refers to his past works, which were mostly realistic paintings. His show brings together pieces of work he has created throughout his life.
A native Iowan, Larry grew up in the Mississippi River town of Clinton. He has a BA in Fine Art from the University of Iowa and a Masters Degree from Jacksonville University. In his professional life, Larry was a Professor of Art and the art department coordinator at what is now Florida State College at Jacksonville. He retired in 2010 and returned full time to studio activity. Two years later he and his wife moved back to the Midwest, a lifelong source of artistic inspiration.
